Welcome to Your Getaway
Welcome to 79th on Main, where barn charm meets boutique comfort. This lovingly restored 1920s barn has been transformed into your personal countryside retreat, complete with modern amenities and timeless character.
Our Story
Hi! We're Jason and Kristen, Penn State grads from State College, Pennsylvania who first stayed here as guests in 2023. We loved the experience so much that when the opportunity arose to purchase the property, we jumped at the chance to share this special place with others.
We understand the need to step away from the everyday hustle—to find a place where you can truly unwind. That's what this barn offers: a luxury retreat where morning coffee tastes better on the porch, afternoons are meant for exploring wineries, and evenings are for gathering around the fire pit.
As frequent visitors to the Finger Lakes (often with our 100-pound Bernedoodle, Doug), we've curated this guide with our favorite local spots and hidden gems. We want your stay to be as relaxing and memorable as possible. Whether you're here for the wine trails, the waterfalls, or simply the peace and quiet, we hope this barn becomes your perfect escape from the ordinary.
This guidebook contains everything you need for a comfortable stay. Take a moment to settle in, pour yourself something delicious from the kitchen, and let the tranquility of the countryside wash over you.
We're delighted to have you as our guest. Enjoy your stay!

Local Farmers Markets
Trumansburg Farmers Market
When: Wednesdays, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM (seasonal, typically May through October)
Where: Main Street, just a 5-minute walk from the barn
Our local gem! Small but mighty with amazing food stands, fresh produce, local meats, artisan ciders, and Finger Lakes wines. Perfect for a midweek stroll and dinner ingredients.
Ithaca Farmers Market
When: Saturdays and Sundays (check the current schedule at ithacamarket.com as times vary by season)
Where: Steamboat Landing, 545 3rd St, Ithaca — 20-minute drive
One of the best farmers markets in New York State! Over 100 vendors offering everything from farm-fresh produce and meats to prepared foods, wine, cider, crafts, and live music. The weekend market is an experience in itself - grab breakfast from a food vendor and enjoy it by the lake.
Pro tip: Both markets feature all local vendors. Bring cash (though many accept cards/Venmo now) and reusable bags. The Ithaca market can get busy on nice weekend mornings - go early for the best selection or later for a more relaxed vibe.
Climate & Comfort
Cooling: Mini-Splits
The barn is cooled by ductless mini-splits, each with its own remote control, so everyone can set their room just right:
- Bedrooms: Mini-split head in each bedroom with its own remote control
- Upstairs: The living room and upstairs bedroom share an open layout, so the upstairs unit comfortably covers the whole space
- Operation: Point the remote at the unit and press power; use MODE to switch between cool, heat, and fan, and the arrows to adjust temperature
- Important: Please turn off all mini-splits before checking out
Heating: Radiators + Thermostat
In cooler months the barn's main heat comes from its original radiators, controlled by the thermostat in the hallway. Set it to your comfort level and give it time — radiators warm up slowly but deliver wonderful, even heat once they get going.
- Quick warm-up: If one room feels chilly, the mini-split in that room has a HEAT mode on its remote for a fast boost
- Check-out: Please set the thermostat to 62°F from October through April so the pipes stay happy
Windows & Ventilation
Original barn windows have been restored and are fully operational. Screens are installed spring through fall. Ceiling fans in all rooms - controlled by the wall switch.
Entertainment Systems
Smart TV
- Power & Control: Use the silver Apple TV remote for everything - it turns on both the TV and Apple TV automatically
- Streaming: HBO Max and Paramount Plus are included, plus local channels through the Spectrum app. Feel free to log into your own streaming services or cast from your device
- Screen Mirroring: Swipe down on your iPhone/iPad and select "Screen Mirroring" to cast
Outdoor Spaces
Propane Fire Pit
Enjoy cozy evenings around our propane fire pit! Simply turn the gas knob to ignite (lighter may be needed for first ignition). Adjust flame height with the control knob. Please turn off completely before heading inside for the night.
Grill
- Use long-necked lighter from basket on kitchen table to ignite
- Propane tanks are kept fully turned off when not in use
- Turn tank valve counterclockwise to open (on top of tank)
- Push and turn burner knobs, then light with the long lighter
- Grill tools in drawer below
- Extra propane tank in shed if needed
- IMPORTANT: Turn propane tank fully off after use
Check-out Process
We hope you've enjoyed your stay! Check-out is at 11:00 AM and is simple:
- Take any trash to the bins at the end of the driveway
- Start the dishwasher if you've used dishes (detergent pods under kitchen sink)
- Leave used towels in the bathroom
- Close and lock all windows
- Turn off all lights
- Turn off all mini-split units (power button on each remote)
- Turn off propane to grill and fire pit
- Set thermostat to 62°F (October-April)

That's it! No need to strip beds or deep clean - we'll take care of the rest.
